Year 2 Transition to Portway

Moving up to junior school from infants can be a daunting prospect. However, here at Portway Junior School we do all we can to ensure that the transition is as smooth and worry-free as possible. We work very closely with Mrs McSherry, the headteacher at Portway Infant School. Together we recognise the importance of a successful transition and working in partnership to serve our school community. As a result, a number of transitional activities are planned throughout the summer term. These transitional activities support children with the next step of their learning journey. Below are the key activities and dates:

  • Wednesday 7th June - Year 3 teachers visit their classes and meet the children at the infant school.
  • Thursday 15th June (4:00pm - 4:45pm) - Welcome Meeting at Portway Juniors for Year 2 children and their parents.
  • Tuesday 4th & Wednesday 5th June - National transition days at Portway Juniors. Parents to take their children to the junior school hall at 9am and collect from the junior school playground at 3pm.
  • Monday 10th July - Miss Wilkinson to deliver a transition assembly at Portway Infants.
  • Monday 17th July - Year 3 teachers visit their classes at Portway Infants to read the children a story.
  • Tuesday 18th July - Year 2 and Year 6 joint leavers picnic.
