Computing

“Computing is not about computers any more. It is about living.” Nicholas Negroponte

Technology is at the forefront of everyday life. At Portway Junior School, we recognise that high-quality computing education is an integral part of the curriculum and our children’s futures. Our intent is to prepare our children for a rapidly developing world of technological advancements, in which we encourage our pupils to use technology creatively, responsibly, and safely, rather than be consumed by it.  By the time children leave Portway Junior School, they will have gained essential knowledge and skills in the three main areas of the computing curriculum: computer science, information technology and digital literacy. We intend for all children to develop their creativity, resilience and problem-solving skills by providing computing opportunities throughout each area of the curriculum to provide a creative and accessible stimulus for learning.  Furthermore, we endeavour to teach our children how to create their own positive digital pathway in order to become successful ‘computational thinkers’ and inspire them to become independent, life-long learners in their future work place.
