Dear parents/carers,
It gives me great pleasure to welcome you to both our school and website. Portway Junior School is part of the Odyssey Collaborative Trust. We work closely with the other schools within our Trust for the benefit of all our pupils and staff. We also have strong, established relationships with Portway Infant School, our main feeder school. We have a successful transition plan allowing the smooth transition of children from the Infant School to the Junior School. Mrs McSherry and I work together as headteachers and as a group of staff throughout the academic year to ensure that all the children and families benefit the most from the provision at both schools. One key asset of Portway, is our Forest School which we share on our extensive school field. The Forest School area is located in the middle of the school sites. Both schools have Level 3 trained Forest School practitioners who deliver bespoke Forest School sessions to all the children.
At Portway we are a team and pride ourselves on the relational approach we work by. All the staff care about the children we teach and firmly believe that a working partnership between home and school will support your child in achieving their very best. Our children are happy and engaged in their learning, which is as a direct result of the professionalism, team work and resilience of the staff Team. Our lessons, are memorable, inspiring and engaging for all children. There are no limits to what our children can achieve regardless of ability.
We are proud of the outcomes for our children both in terms of standards of attainment and the broad, balanced curriculum we offer. We also have a safeguarding and wellbeing officer who ensures that children’s physical and mental health is being developed through their journey and experiences throughout the school.

The partnership between parents and school is very important to us and the web site is one way in which we can strengthen that link. You will be able to find my most recent end of week round-ups , holiday dates and information about each Year Group’s learning at the touch of a button. Naturally, we will continue to use conventional methods of communication too but we hope that the web site will be a useful addition to these.
