PSHE

At Portway Junior School, PSHE is at the core of our whole-school approach and enables our children to not only become ‘lifelong learners’, but will help them learn for life as independent, confident, healthy and responsible members of society. We aim to develop the “whole child” intellectually, morally and socially. PSHE is taught across the school from Year 3 - Year 6 on a weekly basis and as a school, we follow the Jigsaw PSHE scheme. Our curriculum equips children with relevant and meaningful content, which is supported through a strong emphasis on positive relationships, communicating, emotional literacy, building resilience and nurturing mental and physical health – all promoted through our ‘Portway 5’ values. With an ever-changing society, we are able to provide our children with a strong understanding of the diverse world around them (including online) and support them in playing a positive role in contributing to the koinonia within school and the wider community. Woven through the heart of our PSHE teaching, is a commitment to enhancing and promoting our core culture of ‘being kind’.
